       Many centuries ago the inhabitants of America, who were the authors of the great works in the Mississippi Valley, were driven south by an army of savage warriors from the north... The Indian traditions locate their original home north of the Great lakes. In the process of time some of their people migrated to the river Kanawag, (St. Lawrence). After many years a foreign people came by sea and settled south of the lakes.
